What is a Young Professional Challenge?
The Michael J. Fox Foundation hosted a first of its kind Young Professional Challenge in Fall 2020 in support of the Virtual 5K/10K. This point system-based challenge incentivized our YP groups to fundraise and recruit participants to qualify for a chance at a $10,000 match towards their fundraising efforts. Established in 2009 with the New York City chapter, our Young Professionals are groups of proactive individuals in their 20s and 30s who dedicate their time and ideas to help raise funds and awareness for Parkinson's research. From San Francisco to New York City, over 100 individuals were recruited and ultimately raised over $65,000 (inclusive of the match that was awarded to the winner).

The 2021 Young Professional Challenge
Team Fox is eager to get the friendly competition going and this year we are thrilled to announce the chance of a $20,000 match! Team Fox supporter, Chaman Puri, has graciously donated this generous gift to the YP Challenge in honor of his son, Vivek, who lives with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease. Check out more on the inspirational why behind the match from the Puri Family below!

The Puri Family

"We have been affected by Parkinson’s in a very surprising way, with Vivek’s diagnosis at the age of 38, the day after his son was born.  The support of peers has been invaluable but many others with YOPD were “in the shadows”.  By putting themselves out there in a more public, vulnerable way, Vivek and his wife, Chai, have helped grow the support network for people with YOPD and their partners. They have taken their cue from Michael and Tracy, who, by going public and being realistic (and optimistic), have shone a light on the dark corners that many of us otherwise would find ourselves, helping far more people than they could possibly have expected. Our family is grateful to the MJFF for everything it has done to advance Parkinson’s research and hopefully find a cure. "

Know a care partner of a patient with YOPD?
Check out the incredible work Vivek Puri's wife, Chai, is doing to foster a large support system:
My wife, Chai Puri, started married2pd after not finding a support system for spouses of people with YOPD.  They have very specific challenges but can feel even more lonely than we with YOPD feel.  It has had an amazing response and she started a podcast, starring such luminaries as Cherryl Choi (wife of MJFF super ninja Jimmy Choi) and me!  The podcast can be found by searching for “married2pd” and the people seeking support can find the group on facebook at or on the web at
