If you know me, I’m a person that wears her heart on her sleeve. I champion causes that I believe work to build the greater good, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation is one of those causes.

In 2009, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 53. Since then, Parkinson’s has taken us through many highs and lows. We’ve grown stronger as a family.

What we’ve learned is that having this disease is a lot like paddling a canoe down the river. Sometimes it’s smooth sailing, basking in the sunshine, but sometimes you turn the bend and there’s rapids waiting for you. You figure out how to navigate the rapids. Sometimes you tip your canoe, but you climb right back in it, dry off, and start basking in the sun again.

Some days are bad, and some days are good— really GOOD. My dad is a strong man. He’s a fighter. Working with the best doctors in Arkansas (where he and my mom live), we are fighting this disease. Because if their groundbreaking research, my dad enjoys a higher quality of life than my grandpa did when he was living with Parkinson’s. We are familiar with the road ahead, and because of that we fight hard for my dad.

This year, I am participating in the Michael J. Fox Foundation's (MJFF) Fox Trot 5K Run/Walk for Parkinson's Research in Austin.

More than 6 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) — a chronic neurodegenerative disorder. There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease. As the world’s largest nonprofit funder of PD research, MJFF is working to change this.

MJFF is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today.

Your gift will make a real difference: 100 percent of Fox Trot for Parkinson's Research proceeds will go directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s high-impact research programs.

Help me move a cure for Parkinson's disease over the finish line by making a donation today.

Thank you for your support! - Whitney
