I am building a team this year for Michael J. Fox Foundation's (MJFF) Fox Trot 5K Run/Walk in Austin, Texas for Parkinson's Research. Thank you for listening to my message.
Last August (2019) I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurological disorder that causes motor and non-motor issues for which there is currently no cure.
There is such a shortage of neurologists that specialize in movement disorders that it often takes months for you to get an appointment. Then you get 45 minutes to get the diagnosis and some immediate advice and then you have 2-3 months until you get to meet with your Doctor to ask all the questions you have about your future. It’s a challenging time not knowing what the future holds.
Fortunately, others recommended MJFF. Their resources really helped me get my head around my illness and my future and come up with a plan of action to live my life to the fullest and with hope.
The incidence of Parkinson’s will almost double between 2010 and 2030 to an estimated 1.2 million Americans. It is the second most prevalent neurological disorder behind Alzheimer’s. MJFF is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. In other words, they provide HOPE!
I would love for you to join our team! Come run with us if you can or consider a gift. Your gift will make a real difference: 100 percent of Fox Trot for Parkinson's Research proceeds will go directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s high-impact research programs.
p.s. The Coronavirus pandemic has a lot of things up in the air. Parkinson’s marches on… We’ll update you down the road on the actual Run/Walk event as we get more information.
